What is a Line Item?

A Line Item represents a single product on an order.

Each line item records the item being purchased, the quantity ordered, and the price and cost at the time the order was created. An order typically contains multiple line items.

Reporting

Line items are the primary source of reporting data within the system.

Sales, costs, profits, quantities, customer purchasing trends, item reports, and many other reports are all generated from line item data.

Because each line item stores its own price and cost, historical reports remain accurate even if item prices or costs change in the future.
